Join the MSU Science Math Resource Center for a free online workshop on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022 for preschool-aged children and their families, caregivers and teachers. The workshop begins at 9:30am and lasts approximately 40 minutes. Groups/organizations are encouraged to participate as long as you have the technology (video and audio) to show the event to your group and enough adult caregivers to facilitate the activities.

AREN logoThe workshop will be presented via WebEx, and a link will be emailed to you one day prior to the workshop. This workshop is supported by NASA AREN - the AEROKATS and ROVER Education Network.

No materials are required; however, if you are able to gather these household items, it will be great!

We will experiment with whether objects are blown by the wind. We will make predicitions and observations

  • Something stiff to make a hand fan, such as a piece of cardboard, notebook, book, styrofoam tray from meat or veggies [1 per child]
  • A few small items for a blowing experiment – some should be light (such as a pompon, feather, piece of popcorn, dollar bill, crumpled up kleenex) and some heavy (like a rock, toy car, pen, etc.) [You can use the same set for multiple children or have items for each child]

We will make a wind detector (don’t make it ahead of time, just have the supplies ready)

  • A stick -- craft stick, dowel, stick from a tree, pencil etc. [1 per child]
  • A light strip that can blow in the breeze, such as a strip of tissue paper, yarn or string, flagging tape or ribbon, crepe paper, etc. [1 per child]
  • Tape (any kind - Scotch tape, masking tape, etc.)
