Morrill Mentor Application

Goals of the program:

  1. Create purpose and belonging through learning, development and engagement of our Morrill Scholars.
  2. Cultivate personal connection and collaborative support through high impact engagement.
  3. Offer leadership and mentoring opportunities for students.
  4. Create a pathway for students to interact more frequently with the resources at MSU and the AYCSS team.
  5. Create a warm, inviting, and inclusive environment for all Morrill Sholars at MSU.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Mentor weekly time commitment:
    • 4 – 8 hours total
      • 1-hour weekly group meeting 
      • 1-2 hours 1:1 meeting with students
      • 3-5 hours of weekly office work in Culbertson 200A (Morrill Office)
    • Have an open mind, willingness to grow, and an interest in learning about and helping peers. 
    • Participate in weekly group meetings. Duties consist of meeting 1:1 with Scholars, plan and execute events that engage our Scholars, support Morrill classes with review session snacks and presentations, culminate information from Morrill block courses (like US 210), excel sheet proficiency (or willingness to learn), ability to effectively communicate through verbal and written platforms, etc. 
    • In-person commitment to the office, team or mentee connections. Some remote work will be considered when appropriate. 

 

Background and Eligibility:

  • Sophomore status or completed 30 credits
  • Ability to commit required hours per week
  • Is a Morrill Scholar (preferred)
  • Has a 2.5 GPA or above
  • Has a Work/Study award
  • Demonstrates strong communication, engagement and leadership skills
  • First year mentors will be paid, $14/hr

 

Application due dates:

Morrill Mentor applications are due by May 1stfor a summer semester start or by May 15th for a fall semester start.
