Clara Boone is a feature film preparing for principal photography in September 2023. Set in Virginia City, MT in the 1890s, the film is based on three true stories centered around women on the frontier: the 1893 murder of Zona Shue, the life of former slave Sarah Bickford, and the local indigenous peoples. It serves as an important departure from the conventional Western film as it will deconstruct the romanticism of the traditional white masculine lens and unearth underrepresented feminine characters and their experiences.  In addition, the impact of a female-focused story and female-led cast and crew, will break the Montana film mold (a.k.a. “Yellowstone”) and support the transformation of the local Montana Film industry as we prove the viability of projects outside of the Western norm.
