Who is eligible to apply for the grant?

Students from Montana State University, Bozeman or University of Montana, Missoula who are enrolled in a master’s of counseling program are welcome to apply.


Where can I intern?

Students can intern at any Approved Local Agency (LEA) high needs school in rural Montana. See a list of current available sites below.

What training can I expect?

Rural counseling interns can expect a four-step training and immersion experience to prepare them for working in a high needs school in rural Montana. This includes Rural Life Orientation, Rural Class, Internship and potential post graduate employment if the student continues working in rural Montana.

 

Is there compensation for travel and/or relocation?

Yes. Each rural intern will receive financial and tuition compensation for participating in the RMHP4 grant. See a detailed list below.

 

What support can I expect while working independently?

Students will receive individual and group supervision from their professor and peers through their internship class. Each student will be assigned a site supervisor from their school for weekly supervision either in person or through video call. Students will receive additional support from school administration and staff from their assigned school. Lastly, monthly zoom calls will be held for the cohort to provide and receive support from their rural peers.
