Dear Students, Staff, and Faculty,

This summer has been like no other— but rest assured that your Department of Education team has been working very hard to prepare for the 2020-2021 school year. We are looking forward to welcoming everyone back in a few short weeks! We are flexible and adaptable, and ready to tackle any challenge that comes our way!

News and Announcements

  • The fall 2020 schedule in MyInfo is not accurate. Changes were submitted on July 2 and the Registrar’s office is actively working on changes. Thank you for your patience!  
  • Make sure to check the MSU COVID-19 webpage frequently as university and system-wide updates are available all in one place.

Most of you are beginning to think about registration for Fall Semester.  As announced above, the Registrar’s Office is working diligently to update the Class Schedule found in MyInfo . (our subject list is EDCI, EDLD and EDU)  As soon as all courses for Fall are updated, I’ll send an email letting you know the course list is accurate. 

Registration Issues:

  • For those who need to register for a course that is “Consent of Instructor” please send me an email requesting enrollment at [email protected] . 
  • If you need to enroll in Independent Study, Internship or Thesis/Dissertation credits, please go to the Department Forms Website and complete and email the form to [email protected].  I will gather any signatures needed and then enroll you in coursework.
  • If you need your registration PIN email me.
  • Lastly, if you are struggling with registration and need my assistance please email.  I’m here to help and want to alleviate any frustration. 

The Department of Education is accepting applications to our programs through July 15th.  If you would like to submit an application for fall semester to any of our degree programs, please go to the Graduate School application website at: https://www.applyweb.com/msug/index.ftl

Extra! Extra! Read all about it!

Congratulations to Amanda Obery, Rose Vallor, and Sarah Schmitt-Wilson on the publication of their article, “Data Driven Decision Making in Teacher Education: Perceptions of Pre-Service Teachers and Faculty Who Teach Them” published in Action in Teacher Education and sponsored by the OPI GEMS Grant (Tricia Seifert, Principal Investigator).

James Sletten, who passed away on July 23, 2019, was also an author. James was a devoted husband, loving father, emerging scholar, and wonderful colleague. He was a PhD student in the Adult and Higher Education program and had the goal to work in university student affairs. Apart from his academic endeavors, James enjoyed spending time with his family, running, hiking/backpacking, reading science fiction and fantasy fiction, and having intellectually stimulating discussions ranging from science, philosophy, politics, to the worlds of Star Wars and Game of Thrones. A beautiful soul with so much more to give and receive, James is deeply missed.

Professional Development & Engagement Opportunities

  • The Laura Bassi Scholarship, which awards a total of $8,000 annually, was established by Editing Press in 2018 with the aim of providing in-kind editorial assistance to postgraduates and early career faculty. All currently enrolled master’s and doctoral candidates are eligible to apply, as are faculty in the first five years of their employment. Application deadline: July 25, 2020.
