Dear Students,

This has been a summer like no other, and It is hard to believe that our academic year begins in three short weeks! Your “summer crew” has been working very hard to prepare. While this year will look different, our commitment to you, our students, has not changed. We all need to work together to stay healthy and safe. And if we don’t take care of ourselves, we can’t help anyone else. I encourage you to reach out to our college’s Director of Student Success, Dr. Kayte Kaminski, if you are in need of support. Here are some strategies you can consider, including

  • Maintaining a routine, such as getting up and going to bed at the same time each day, finding a time and a place to study, and continue social activities safely. Check out Jackbox for a cool selection of games you can play with friends, online and in real time!
  • Boost your immune system during this time of pandemic by getting enough sleep, eating well, and exercising.
  • Stay hopeful. Hope is not just believing things will get better; it is taking action to make that happen. Self-care and keeping up with classes are part of what keeps hope alive.

  • All Monday Minutes are archived and available for your reference.
  • Every MSU employee and student will receive a Clean ‘Cat Kit. All face-to-face instructors and field supervisors will receive a face shield.
  • Your Field Experience and Licensure Team has been working closely with our school district partners to create field experience opportunities for our pre-service teachers that are aligned with school district plans. We are in a rapidly evolving situation, and our objective is to provide students with robust field experiences while conditions change.
  • Make sure to check the MSU COVID-19 webpage frequently as university and system-wide updates are available all in one place.

Virtual Events

  • CodeHS Coding Workshop for Teachers – 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, July 28, 2020: The CodeHS Team and CodeHS Teacher Trainers are bringing a 2-hour virtual PD workshop to your region on July 28th, 2020 to help prepare new and experienced computer science teachers for the 2020-21 school year. The workshops are FREE to all teachers.
    • CodeHS PD workshops are designed for passionate teachers who are interested in teaching computer science but do not necessarily have a background in programming.
    • No experience is required to take the PD workshop.
    • Montana teachers will receive 2 CEUs for their attendance.

Work/Volunteer Opportunities

  • Private tutor wanted to supplement/supervise online learning: We are small group of parents who will not be sending our kids to public school if they are required to wear masks. We’d rather keep them home. But the distance learning experience was boring and uneventful. Person hired will be supervising students working on 3rd grade, 4th grade, 6th grade curriculum given from the Park county public school for passing proficiency tests. We are looking for someone to help with making learning fun and exciting. We would like to have weekly outdoor adventures for science and physical education, teach cooking, music and possibly dance. Someone who’s idea of teaching involves critical thinking and thinking outside the box.  We are open to discuss what’s possible and open to suggestions. Desired working days Monday-Thursday 10am-3pm. Hourly wage $19 hour. Livingston location will likely be parents’ homes or one designated home. Three non- family references required. Contact Salvia Harris at [email protected] or 406-272-5270.

Scholarship Opportunities

The Student Emergency Fund assists Montana State University students by providing limited emergency financial assistance to currently enrolled students who are unable to meet immediate, essential expenses due to an unexpected emergency. For more information on possible expenses covered by the Student Emergency Fund (SEF), please visit the SEF webpage. Students may complete the Student Emergency Fund application to submit a request or faculty and staff may submit a request on behalf of students.
