Dear Students and Colleagues,
First Lady Dr. Jill Biden met with a group of teachers the day after the Presidential inauguration. The video is about one hour. You may know that Dr. Biden has decided to continue teaching at her community college in Delaware. I am excited to see our field elevated and represented by Dr. Biden!

News and Announcements
- Faculty Annual Review should be completed in Activity Insight. Tenurable/tenured faculty please submit to workflow and complete the attached workload template reflective of AY 20-21. NTT faculty 0.5 FTE complete in Activity Insight but do not submit to workflow. Please have your materials completed or submitted by 1/27/2021 and watch for a Sign-Up Genius to schedule your appointment with Ann.

- If you have students who are under-performing in your courses, not meeting academic requirements, or have not been attending class, please refer the student to early alert. Our department’s Student Success Team is also able to provide support for instructors of graduate and undergraduate students.
- Bi-weekly payroll is coming in March! Please familiarize yourself with the new process. Employees will need to submit timesheets twice per month.

- The American Mathematics Competition, hosted by the Science Math Resource Center, will be held February 4 and 10. Congratulations to the SMRC team for their service to the state of Montana!

Professional Development & Engagement Opportunities
- Adam Grant is an organizational psychologist whose motto is “The most meaningful way to succeed is to help others succeed.” The MSU Department of Education is committed to success for all. I encourage you to check out his podcast, TED Talks, newsletter, and books!
- The Bozeman School District invites faculty to attend an “Open Mic” session on the science of reading, January 27, 5-7pm. Please see the attached flyer.
- Webinar for Rural Educators:Join Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellows Rachael Arens and Michael Guarraia from NASA on February 4th at 7pm CST / 6pm MST for the monthly 3-D Thursdays series for K-12 rural educators. This webinar will offer educators a virtual workshop with the NASA AREN Project to access kite-based “AEROKATS” and remotely controlled aquatic and land-based “ROVERS” that collect remotely sensed Earth observations. Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Opportunities
- The MSU Women's Center invites nominations for the 2021 Student of Achievement Awards for graduating seniors (graduating in 2021-- May or December) who have not only been successful in their academic careers, but who have demonstrated leadership, been involved in extracurricular activities, promoted diversity, inclusion, equality and social justice issues on campus, and have a breadth of interests and involvement. Students of Achievement should be strong role models for other students as well as people in the community. To nominate a student, please send a letter or an e-mail stating their names, a paragraph or more about their qualifications for this award, the student’s email and class standing Wednesday, February 3rd to Betsy Danforth.
