From the Department Head
Dear Students and Colleagues,
I hope you will consider a donation to one of the four projects associated with our department. MSU Giving Day is a wonderful way to support innovative and important initiatives. No donation is too big or too small!

Kindness in Graduate Education Week
February 15 - 24
Kindness in Graduate Education Week is a celebration of the acts of kindness that graduate students experience in their busy lives. During the week of Feb 15-24, you can submit acts of kindness that you engage in or experience on or off-campus, and we will help you celebrate them anonymously on our social media.
Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Opportunities
- February is Black History Month. While it is important to center Black history every day, this month provides a special opportunity to honor the past and present contributions of Black Americans. Take some time to learn about Helena Mayor Wilmot Collins, who fled his home country of Liberia during a brutal civil war, survived starvation and separation from his family, arrived in Helena through the Refugee Resettlement Program, became an American citizen and the first Black mayor in Montana history.
Professional Development & Engagement Opportunities
- The MSU Writing Center is pleased to offer a free writing workshop targeted for graduate students in the sciences who are in the process of writing their research for publication. Students can register by filling out this google form by February 12, 2021. If you have questions, please contact Erin Strickland, the MSU Writing Center's Graduate Program Coordinator.
Extra! Extra! Read all about it!
- Our department’s success is determined by our collective accomplishments. Share your own accomplishments with pride! Or if you hear of a colleague or student’s accomplishment, please share. Please send accomplishments and kudos to [email protected].
