Broadwater County 4-H
Overview: 4-H is a youth development program of USDA and MSU Extension making it the largest
out-of-school youth development program in the state and nation. The mission of 4-H
is to prepare youth for living in a global, ever changing world, as competent contributing
adults. Youth engage in educational opportunities such as clubs, camps and special
interest programs where they have the opportunity to build life skills such as decision
making, goal setting, communication, leadership and responsibility. Broadwater County
4-H currently has 149 youth members and 53 adult volunteer leaders enrolled in seven
clubs. Members participate in hands-on learning experiences called projects, which
include robotics, beef, photography, woodworking, and poultry- just to name a few!
Age Requirements: 4-H is open to all youth ages 5-18 years old (as of October 1). Youth who are
5-8 years old join as Cloverbuds to explore a variety of project areas in a fun non-competitive
environment. Youth who are 8-18 join as traditional members and get to enjoy a large
project selection and have the opportunity to participate in many camps, contests
and educational programs. Contact the Extension Office to enroll.
Volunteer Leaders: 4-H is made possible through the support of adult volunteers who assist the program
through project work, clubs, activities and events. Adult volunteers serve as a guide
and mentor by providing opportunities for youth to learn practical life skills. Volunteers
working directly with youth must undergo a background check and orientation of the
4-H program. Contact the Extension Office for volunteer opportunities.
