MACAA Fall Meeting

October 27, 2020 MSU Webex due to Covid-19, 3:00 p.m. MDT

 

The meeting was called to order by President Tim Fine at 3:00 p.m. MDT. There were 62 members and guests in attendance, including life member Dan Picard.

 

MINUTES:  changes to the minutes were Vice-President Tim Fine to President Tim Fine and Pat McGlynn provided a horticulture report.  Minutes were approved with those changes.

 

TREASURER’S REPORT: Treasurer reported that the MACAA has $17,740.13 in our checking account, $4152.27 in our DA Davidson Account and $6056.44 in our First Security Bank CD.  Treasurer’s report was approved and filed for audit.

 

Kurt Jones Western Region Director provided information to the members on the professional development opportunities through the NACAA.  He spoke about presentations, posters, the Journal of NACAA, scholarships and other opportunities.  Kurt mentioned the JCEP Leadership conference being held virtually February 10 & 11, 2021.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS: Tyler Lane read the compiled committee reports and sent those to the members via email.  Reports were submitted by Kate Fuller, Jesse Fulbright, Nikki Bailey, Pat McGlynn, Adriane Good, and Mike Schuldt.

 

OLD BUSINESS:  Shelley Mills reported on hosting AMPIC 2025.  Helms-Briscoe will contact MACAA in January to discuss potential sites and will travel to Montana to view potential locations.  Washington (Steve Vanvleet) has graciously offered to let Montana host in Spokane Washington if we cannot find a venue in Montana.  

There was no Quarter horse book report and no By-Laws reports.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

Tracy Mosley introduced a new hire in Teton County: Karen Forseth. Her start day is November 9, 2020. 

There has been no indication that there will be an Extension Day on the Hill in 2021.

New Hires: Josh Bilboa moved to Park County, Abi-Saeed is the new state Extension Horticulturalist, Cecil Tharp is the new Ag Program Leader and Mary Burrows is the new Dean of Agriculture and head of MAES.

Departures: Bob Sager, Melissa Ashley, Joanna Whittle and Tom Allen will be retiring soon (December).

Cecil Tharp provided a brief program update since we had a meeting prior to the MACAA meeting.

Shelley Mills read the NACAA report submitted by Wendy Becker.

 

SIRE AND DAM REPORT: Kari Lewis had a baby girl (Kaci) in March, Danielle Harper had twins, Rowan and Nina in May, and Allison Kosto had a baby girl October 1, 2020. 

 

Shelley Mills nominated Josh Bilboa and Katie Hatlelid for the 2nd Vice President position and nominated Wendy Becker for the Secretary/Treasurer position for another year.

Marko Manoukian moved to close the nominations and accept Wendy Becker for secretary/treasurer by unanimous vote. Marc King seconded and the motion passed.

Voting for 2nd VP was done by anonymous poll, with Katie Hatlelid winning the vote.

Installation of officers was conducted by President Tim Fine and Tyler Lane took over the gavel.

Jane Mangold moved to adjourn the meeting, Mat Walter seconded, motion passed.
