What is Extension?

All universities engage in research and teaching, but land-grant universities like Montana State University have a third critical mission - Extension. Extension means reaching out and "extending" resources by assisting in solving public needs with university resources through non-formal, non-credit programs.
Montana State University Extension is an educational resource dedicated to improving the quality of people's lives by providing research-based knowledge to strengthen the social, economic and environmental well-being of families, communities, and agricultural enterprises.
MSU Extension offers university resources for all Montanans to explore, even if they never set foot on campus. We provide access to useful information and expert knowledge via workshops, demonstrations, community meetings, publications, videos and the Web. Extension links a network of MSU faculty topic specialists on the MSU-Bozeman campus and our Wheatland County agent to the communities in our county.
Wheatland County Extension agent, Mandie Reed, is proud to provide services in the following areas:

  • 4-H and Youth Development
  • Agriculture and Horticulture
  • Natural Resources
  • Community and Economic Development

Wheatland County Youth Fair

Register to enter the fair at http://wcyf.fairentry.com before July 17th.  Late entries will not be accepted. Entry books can be accessed at the Entry Book Page.

Weigh-in for large animals will be Friday morning, August 2nd starting at 7:00 am.  If you would like to bring your animals to the fairgrounds the night before, you are welcome to, but the fair does not provide security.  It would be your responsibility to insure your animal’s care and well-being.

Last, we will again be putting together a WCYF Showcase Catalog to hand out to potential buyers.  Please email your entries to Kristi at [email protected], text to 406-431-7478 or bring them to the Extension Office no later than Monday, July 8th.  Please include the following information: a picture of yourself, name, age, a list of all animals/items you will have at the fair, and one sentence about what you want to accomplish with your projects this year. If you need help or would like more information about the Showcase Catalog, please contact Kristi at the Extension Office at 632-4728. Please watch for a confirmation email/response to know that we received your submission. If you don't get one, please call the office at 632-4728. An example of an entry is below.
