During Summer Success Academy, scholars participate in a research project with their classmates, identifying a non-profit in Montana who are working to solving a wicked problem. Below are four of the projects done by the 2023-2024 Hilleman Cohort.

Betterin’ Veteran 

Lily Jones, Aidan Maze and Draegon Mytton present their research on the veteran mental health crisis facing Montana and what the Veteran Alliance of Southwest Montana is doing to support these veterans.

 

Equity in Childhood Education 

Maddie MacDonald, Erin Mestes, and TJ Johnson discuss the importance of early childhood education, and how the lapse of funding for Head Start poses a large issue for Montana. They researched the organization, Zero to Five, and how it is helping advocate for early childhood education in Montana.

 

Substance Abuse

Adiah Steward, Delaney Bauwens, Gavin Mayo and Kaeleigh Starkey picked the Rimrock organization to study, and how it is working in Montana to help people experiencing addictions.

 

Homelessness in Gallatin Valley

Grace Mercado, Lesl Schoenberg, Nashantee Deputee and Daniel Kadrmas talk about economic disparity in Montana. The scholars volunteered at the Warming Center, a branch of HRDC, to learn more about how to help tame the wicked problem of economic disparity.
