Soldering
Soldering is the process of joining metal together using a metal with a lower melting point, called solder. It is a common and reliable way to make electrical connections between boards and other components, wires, and more. There are multiple soldering stations available for use in the electronics area of the Makerspace.
Solder Safe!
Follow the guidelines below to maximize safety while soldering:
- Always turn on a fan or open a window while soldering. Do not solder in areas without good ventilation.
- Try to use lead-free solder when possible, this usually comes on green spools instead of the typical black spools.
- Use proper clamps and jigs to keep your hands away from the heat.
- Always return the soldering iron to its holder in between operations.
- Never walk away from the soldering station while the iron is turned on.
