Course Title: NRSG 334 Nursing Practice for Health Promotion

Credits: 1 (clinical)

Semesters Offered: Fall, Spring

Prerequisites: NRSG 327, NRSG 328, NRSG 329; PSYX 230 or HDFS 101       

Co-requisite: NRSG 329 for ABSN program

 

Course Description:

This course is the clinical component that complements Nursing Concepts for Health Promotion.  In this course the student will conduct health assessments and develop health promotion plans for individuals, families, and communities.  Students will initiate a teaching plan(s) for clients on interventions that promote health and prevent diseases.

 

Catalog Description:

This course provides the clinical experiential learning associated with Nursing Concepts for Health Promotion (NRSG 332) and includes health assessments and health promotion teaching and planning for individuals, families, and communities to promote health and prevent disease. 

 

Course Objectives:

  1. Perform health assessments on individuals, families, and communities in the clinical setting.
  2. Develop a health promotion plan and patient education presentation for clients in the clinical setting utilizing the theoretical health promotion models.
  1. Conduct an educational presentation to client(s) utilizing two or more of the following:
  • Health promotion intervention; lifestyle choices, nutrition, physical activity, stress management, social support, mindfulness, complementary and alternative therapies.
  1. Evaluate the effectiveness of the educational presentation.

 

Course Learning Outcomes: Upon completing this course the student will be able to:

  1. Perform health assessments on individuals, families, and communities.
  2. Develop a health promotion plan based on that assessment.
  3. Conduct an educational presentation to the client(s) utilizing two or more of the health promotion interventions.
  4. Evaluate the effectiveness of the presentation and patient learning.
