Course Description:

This course focuses on educator roles and responsibilities in teaching clinical nursing

(academic or practice environments) and is designed for students interested in developing clinical teaching skills. Major themes are development of diverse high quality learning activities, evaluation of student performance, concepts of student supervision, and agency coordination.

This course focuses on educator roles and responsibilities in teaching clinical nursing

(academic or practice environments) and is designed for students interested in developing clinical teaching skills. Major themes are development of diverse high quality learning activities, evaluation of student performance, concepts of student supervision, and agency coordination.

 

Course Objectives: 

  1. Formulate learning objectives aligned with the Essentials and program outcomes for nursing students in diverse clinical settings.
  2. Develop diverse learning strategies to encompass the complexities of the educational program, clinical environment, student, and agency as well as patients.
  3. Participate in designing and implementing equitable evaluative measures of clinical performance.
  4. Use evaluation process as a strategy to promote and document student learning.
  5. Analyze educator roles/responsibilities in equitable management of the clinical learning environment.

 

 Course Learning Outcomes: Upon completing this course the student will be able to:

  1. Identify high quality clinical sites.
  2. Create a simulation scenario.
  3. Analyze current issues in clinical education.
  4. Demonstrate the process for comprehensive clinical documentation and evaluation.
