Course Description

This course is designed for the advanced nurse generalist. It builds on basic physiology and pathophysiology and leads to an understanding of symptoms and patterns of pathophysiology that are experienced commonly in populations that require interventions and management within healthcare delivery systems. Health maintenance, preventive, acute, chronic, palliative, and/or end of life care will be considered. 

Course Objectives

1. Analyze the relationship between physiology and pathology within body systems.

2. Discuss advanced pharmacokinetic principles as they relate to common pathophysiologic
problems across the lifespan.

3. Identify factors related to pathophysiology and pharmacology to support clinical
decision-making in the CNL role.

4. Analyze pharmacotherapeutics of single and multiple drug regimens that are encountered
in pathophysiologic presentations.

5. Analyze client/patient education needs related to pathophysiologic presentations and
pharmacotherapeutic regimens.

6. Analyze ethical considerations related to the management of pathophysiologic responses
and pharmacotherapeutic regimens from the CNL perspective.
