Excellence in Open Education Award
Wendy Morrison
Wendy Morrison, instructor in the Department of Human Development and Community Health, is the recipient of the Excellence in Open Education Award. Sponsored by the MSU Library, the award recognizes a faculty member who reduces barriers to education by using open information and resources in the classroom. It comes with a $2,000 honorarium.
Morrison teaches courses in human development, trauma, skills for the human services, sustainable community development and more. In 2020, she received a grant from the MSU Library to convert her course, "Theories and Skills for the Human Services," to one that uses open educational resources. She also developed an open textbook for a new trauma and recovery course that debuted in spring of 2024, also supported by a grant from the MSU Library. Morrison’s efforts have already saved an estimated 670 students nearly $65,000 in textbook costs.
