Course Description

This seminar course explores the economics of the policy positions of the 2024 presidential candidates on major issues ranging from climate to immigration to health care and beyond. Discussions will be led by faculty and experts from the Department of Agricultural Economics and Economics.


The class will also explore the role of political and economic institutions in Democracy by reading and discussing one chapter from the book “Why Nations Fail” by Daron Acemoglu and James A. Robinson.

Prerequisites: ECNS 204 or permission of the instructor

About the Instructor

Dr. Wendy Stock is a professor of economics and director of the Initiative for Regulation and Applied Economic Analysis (IRAEA) at Montana State University. Her research focuses on the impacts of public policies including antidiscrimination legislation, family leave policies, special education, and Medicaid. She also conducts research in economics education, is the author of an introductory-level economics textbook, and serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Economic Education. Her research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Ford Foundation, the Charles Koch Foundation, the Spencer Foundation, and the Calvin K. Kazanjian Economics Foundation.
