The Storytelling Project Relocation: Barnard 346

University Facilities Management is preparing for upcoming development along 7th Avenue for future academic facilities to support the University's mission. The entire Facilities operation, including Work Control and campus trades functions, will be relocated and consolidated to make way for new building construction. Faculty Court is being considered as the new location for these operations, therefore some of the first steps of this process has included inventorying space within Faculty Court modulars and Faculty Court houses. Campus Planning has been working this fall with each Faculty Court occupant to identify relocation opportunities.

The Storytelling Project assists teachers in creating lessons plans for 4th-8th grades and focuses on training teachers on incorporating computer science-based education into their classrooms, particularly in rural and tribal schools. The Space Management Committee allocated Faculty Court 23 to the group in October of 2018. The needs of the program include whiteboards, space for locked file cabinets and library resource materials, as well as access to a collaborative space with access to video conferencing so they can meet with remote collaborators. Barnard 346 was recently vacated by Mike Wittie and can accommodate the lab functions for the group. There are no other competing requests for the space, and the space was recommended for use by The Storytelling Project by the Gianforte School of Computing Department Head, John Paxton.  While this is a reduction in space from their current location in Faculty Court 23, it is an interim solution until the group is relocated into the future Gianforte Hall, currently in design.
