Description of Request

Submitted By: University Facilities Management

Nopper 900 and 910 currently have considerable vacancy due to tenant departures and reuse is being considered comprehensively for both buildings. 900 (entire building) was formerly occupied by FLIR in a combination of office and research space, with a significant unfinished space on the buildings second floor. 910 (portion of building) was formerly occupied by MilTech as office space and has sat vacant since their departure.

After consideration of a variety of users and potential solutions, discussion of what users and services make sense in this location related to campus, and funding mechanisms for renovation, the following is proposed for the utilization of Nopper 900 and 910.

  • Consolidation of UIT to all 900 and 910 second floor space. This would allow vacation of leased space in CFT5 and ancillary space across campus.
  • Relocation of UBS to 910 first floor space. This would bring all UBS staff to one location and provide private offices for several management level staff who currently do not have appropriate space. Additionally, this would open space in Nopper 920 to bring HR staff currently on campus to 920 and create room for growth and flexibility across both groups.
  • Relocate Spectrum Lab to 900 first floor space. This would allow the vacation of leased space in CFT2 and provide the space needed for research growth in conjunction with a recently received grant. The research space is larger than needed for Spectrum which would allow for a synergistic user to be added in the future. Spectrum Lab will utilize office space in Nopper 910 immediately upon approval of this space allocation to support immediate hiring needs as part of their grant.
  • Approximately 5,000 sf of additional office space will exist on the first floor of 900 for another user(s) to be determined based on future requests and needs. Space Planning will be looking for additional core campus users who may make sense in this location to create flexibility in core campus and at leased spaces which may be vacated by utilizing this space.

Renovations of the space will be split based on the allocations between Administrative and Research funding.

The exact locations and configurations of each user will be determined during the design process to ensure the most efficient utilization of the space and best locations for each user.
