Psychology Faculty Lab Allocation: CFT5
Description of Request
Submitted By: Benjamin Clegg, Psychology Department Head
Dr. Fangxing Bai, a new tenure-track faculty member in the Department of Psychology, establishing his research lab requiring space for four to five high-end computer workstations to support his analytical research. Dr. Bai’s faculty office is located in Traphagen Hall, room 426. Currently, there is no available space in Traphagen Hall to accommodate Dr. Bai’s lab space needs, therefore staff has identified alternative available space within the CFT5 building. The recently vacated rooms, CFT5 355 and CFT5 356, are available for reallocation and provide an ideal solution for his needs. Room 356 is well-suited to accommodate the lab and its computer equipment, while room 355 can function as a multipurpose office for research assistants, graduate students, and a hoteling workspace for Dr. Bai, allowing him proximity to the lab to effectively manage and oversee research activities. Allocating space in CFT5 aligns well with Psychology’s existing presence in the building. Dr. Linying Ji, another faculty member, is also located on the third floor, and the department’s Sleep Lab operates out of the second floor. Establishing Dr. Bai’s lab in CFT5 not only fulfills the spatial requirements for his research but also strengthens collaboration opportunities within the established Psychology community in the building. Staff believes this allocation effectively meets the department's needs and supports Dr. Bai’s transition and research activities.
