University Information Technology prides itself on its dedication to providing equal educational experiences for all students. This includes dedicated training resources, various learning tools, and functional accessibility. Below you will find a non-comprehensive list of these assets that UIT is excited to offer, which are included in the computer fee included in your tuition.

Training

Located on the Library’s website, students, faculty, and staff can find an extensive source of training on a wide range of topics through LinkedIn Learning (formerly lynda.com). From simple lessons on how to best utilize Microsoft programs to developing strong networking skills, introductions to coding with Python to logo design, LinkedIn Learning has something useful for everyone.

UIT also provides a variety of trainings on our How-To site

Learning Tools

Most students already know that they have access to the entire Adobe and Microsoft 365 suites but did you know there is so much more? UIT offers a large selection of software for students to use, like the powerful statistical program SPSS, MATLAB’s technical computer language program, and Auto Desk/Auto CAD for engineering and design.

Some software can’t be downloaded to personal computers but with the help of Student Remote Labs, you can access these programs easily if you have access to an internet browser; Remote Labs has all the computing power when your laptop doesn’t.

Visit our campus licensed software page for more details on our offerings and how to download.

Accessibility

UIT offers unique software to help all users learn and work in a way that best suits their style. We are dedicated to providing the best learning environment for all students via our many accessibility features and options. A couple of highlights are:

  • EquatIO:
    • For those who prefer to listen to math in any document or web page, or to create math content with voice or handwriting.
    • Take a screenshot of inaccessible equations to convert it to accessible math that will automatically be read aloud.
    • Dictate equations and formulas out loud to have them converted into written expressions.
    • Write math freehand on a device to turn it into digital math.
  • Read&Write Gold
    • A literacy support software great for those with dyslexia, English as a second language, and other issues with the written word.
    • Have on-screen text read out loud (text to speech).
    • Look up definitions, help with vocabulary, and assist with research easily.
    • Turn documents and web pages into MP3 files.

It is our hope that these tools – and the many more offered on our site – will help students get the most out of their experience here at MSU. Please reach out to UIT directly if you have any questions by visiting us on the first floor of the library, by emailing helpdesk@montana.edu, or calling 406-994-1777.
