Asilid sp.
This is a robber fly, or sometimes referred to as an assassin fly. Adults are predatory and ambush other insects, often catching them in flight. There are more than 7,000 described species of Asilidae, with about 1,000 in North America. They are often found in open, sunny, and dry habitats with open patches of vegetation.
