Empidid Sp.
This is a fly in the family, Empididae. They are sometimes called dagger flies or balloon flies. The adults usually have a rounded head with a long proboscis and a distinct neck as pictured above. Both the larva and adult are predators of smaller insects. The adult can occasionally feed on nectar. Adult male dagger flies participate in the offering of prenuptial gifts to females in hopes of obtaining a mate.
