Camponotus

This is a queen Camponotus herculeanus, a common carpenter ant species found across the Northern Hemisphere. They reside in rotting logs, wood, or under rocks. Their nuptial, mating flights take place between May and July. Queen ants with wings are called “alates.” After mating, queens shed their wings and become “dealates.”
