Sphex sp.
Wasps in the genus Sphex are commonly called digger wasps. They dig nests or occupy pre-existing cavities in the ground. Adult digger wasps are predatory and paralyze prey insects with their sting. They then hoard these paralyzed yet alive insects in their nest on which the larvae then feed. There are an estimated 130 known species of Sphex wasps in the world.
