Maddy grew up in Sun Valley, Idaho. She graduated from MSU with a degree in Economics in 2008. After graduation she returned home, where she worked as a ski patroller and a raft guide for several seasons. In 2011, she began law school at UC Davis School of Law. During Law School, Maddy received an award for being the top student in her Legal Research and Writing class and worked as a tutor for that class the following year.

In the summer of 2014, Maddy returned to Bozeman and passed the Montana Bar Exam. She is currently a Water Master with the Montana Water Court, adjudicating water rights throughout the state. Maddy welcomed her first child in the summer of 2016 and spends whatever free time she can find playing with her husband, her daughter, and their two dogs in the mountains, lakes, and rivers throughout Montana and Idaho.
