Flathead 4-H Foundation Minutes December 10, 2024

Held at the Expo Building at the Flathead County Fairgrounds

Board members present: Carol Olson-Erickson, Kristi Davis, Sandy Evenson, Rose McIntyre, Jaselyn Hawbaker, Emily Hall, Mark Campbell, Lesley Hawbaker, Jill Kahanek, Ashley King-Jones, Rick Balestri.

Board members absent: Scott Hinkley, Christina Kaupp, Mark Blasdel.

Guests:  Dana Higgins, Wally Sutton.

Meeting called to order at 6:05 PM by Carol Olson-Erickson.

Pledges led by  - None

Thank you from Amber Jones Ashley King-Jones accepted the minutes as read minutes with Today's date. Rose McIntyre seconded. Motion passed.

Bills - Paid with debit card for camp. Mark Campbell moved to pay the bills. Ashley King-Jones seconded. Motion passed. For more information on Loon Lake Camp bills, please contact the Flathead County Extension office.

Amy Henry needs our tax guy to get current per Carol Olson-Erickson.

Committee Reports

Brick:  Need to get photos to Jill for the slides. Need to get with Matt and complete this project and wipe the slate clean. Mark Campbell to talk with Matt Regan to get the rest of the film and wrap this up.  19 new bricks were installed. 208/100 bricks from chick-fil-A, 42 left.  Maybe each club could come up with 2 nominees. Dana to do a write up about bricks. Due end of February.

Raffle:  Nothing new, will try and have a representative to each club meeting and talk about what raffle covers.

4-H Council: Update from Kristi Davis - year end meeting in September.  Jessica Juhl was elected Vice President, and Codi Evenson was electred to the Treasurer position. A bookkeeper was chosen to handle the council books.  10 clubs participated in the window displays for 4-H week Oct 6-13.  New family orientation took place on Nov 9, 2024 and was well attended. Leaders banquet to take place Jan 18, 2025, at the Eagles.  Foods fair will be on January 11, 2025. Winter Camping theme.The semi-annual legislative breakfast will take place Jan 20, 2025 in Helena.  County Congress will take place at the Ag Center on April 19th 2025. Event at Frugals for fair donations will become an annual event.

Ashly King-Jones moved to update the fire Suppression system at the camp. Rose McIntyre seconded. Motion Passed.  Ashley to talk to Pete at the County Commissioner’s office.

Rick suggested scholarships to award in May. Needs to go out in the January newsletter. Ashley King-Jones, Mark Campell, Christina Kaupp, on the committee, get it out schools. Ashley April 1st, due date 15th.


Old Business- Year end was turned into Rick

Board members to accept- Carol Olson Erickson and Mark Blasdel, both to 3-year terms. Carol to remain President. Ashley King-Jones so moved, Mark Campbell seconded. Motion passed.

New Business- More board member seats to fill. Wally Sutton to fill a community board member spot.
Sandy Evenson so moved. Carol Olson seconded. Motion passed.

Budget Review- Vote on Budget at next meeting, February 25, 2025.  Wage Increase was discussed for the cook at the Loon Lake Camp.  Would like a prep cook, dishwasher, mopping ect.  Ashley King-Jones moved to increase wage. Mark Campbell seconded. Motion passed. Bonus for Tabatha with taxes taken out. Sandy Evenson moved for the bonus. Kristi Davis seconded. Motion passed.  For more information on the wage increase or bonus, please call the Flathead County Extension office.

Loon Lake Camp - New Title for Jill, to become Executive director of Loon Lake 4-H camp. Rose McIntyre so moved. Ashly King-Jones seconded. Motion passed. Jill's wages were discussed. For more information on wages, please contact the Flathead County Extension office. Rose McIntyre moved to pay Jill back the cleaning fees. Kristi Davis seconded. Motion passed. For more information on the cleaning fees, please contact the Flathead County Extension office.

Office Elections-  Wally Sutton moved to accept all officers to stay in current positions.
Carol Olson-Erickson- President    Ashly King-Jones- Vice President    Lesley Hawbaker- Secretary
Rose McIntrye seconded.  Motion passed.  Treasurer Office - Wally Sutton moved to the next meeting, Wally resends his motion. Wally Sutton moved to accept Mark Campbell as our new Treasurer. Rose McIntrye seconded. Motion passed.

New signers on bank accounts will be, Ashley King-Jones, Carol Olson-Erickson, Mark Campbell.
Sandy Evenson moved to add new signers to all bank accounts. Kristi Davis seconded. Motion passed.


State updates from Rick- 1% payment from all clubs- accounts Ear marked money, for scholarships, X amount for 1%. Grants would be 1% this year and not again. Outside of scholarships or grants 1 time payment. Donations-fundraising-educational formatting.

Next meeting is on February 25, 2025.  Rose moved to adjourn the meeting; the meeting adjourned at 8:22 p.m.

Scholarship opportunities:

Four - $500 scholarships for Graduating High School Seniors

            (Must be an active Flathead 4-H member in good standing)

 

Two - $500 scholarships for Current College / Trade School Students

(Must have been an active Flathead 4-H member in good standing upon graduation from high school)

Please check the box for the scholarship you are applying for.

All scholarships must be used during the 2024-2025 academic year.

Please complete this scholarship form in its entirety. Typed answers are preferred. You may attach additional sheets of paper if your answers exceed the space allowed. Applicants must be currently attending or plan to attend a college, trade school, or other institution of higher learning during academic yr 2024-2025.

A complete scholarship application packet must include the following:

  • scholarship application
  • letter of reference from a 4-H Leader
  • summary/resume of your 4-H accomplishments (i.e. projects, awards, trips, events, activities, etc.)

The complete scholarship application packet must arrive (not postmarked) at the Flathead County Extension Office no later than 4:30 pm Thursday, May 30, 2024.

future at the Flathead County Fairgrounds!

Make your mark in the walkway that leads into the Grandstand Building. Have your family name, a 4-H member’s name, your business or organization’s name engraved in a brick on the walkway. You could even choose to engrave a brick in honor of someone special or create a family treasure for generations to come. We have lots of people that have spent much of their life in and around 4-H over the years and many have come through the grandstand building on their way to a livestock sale, or in support of one of their family members involved in 4-H. So honor your special friend, loved one, or family member with a commemorative engraved brick that will last forever in the walkway to the Grandstand building. Placement of the engraved bricks on the ground will be random.
