RABBITS/POULTRY -- Department - ZPR

GENERAL RULES:  Due to the possibility of extreme heat that puts undue stress on rabbit and poultry, they will only be allowed at the fair during the following time:

  1. Refer to the 4-H fair schedule for time the animals must be brought to the fair.
  2. Rabbits and poultry must be taken from pens and shown for judging. Exhibitors should be able to show their own animals and must be present or animals will be disqualified.
  3. Judging will begin with Class 1, at that time all members having exhibits in Lot #1 will bring them before the judge.
  4. Exhibition coops for poultry will be furnished by the fair manager. Exhibitor should bring their own lock and water bottles for coops.
  5. A pen of three or pairs may be divided and entered in individual lots.
  6. Refer to 4-H livestock exhibit rules and 4-H Livestock Code of Ethics.
  7. All entries will be veterinarian inspected entry day.

 SPECIAL MARKET RULES

  1. Exhibitors must notify the Extension Office, no later than June 1st, of current year, if they plan to sell their market poultry and/or rabbits at the Valley County 4-H & FFA Livestock Sale.
  2. All market poultry & rabbits will be weighed at entry time.
  3. Refer to livestock sale rules.
  4. Poultry meat classes - see criteria to sell at 4-H/FFA Livestock Sale (listed under Poultry Meat Classes)

BREEDING RABBITS

ZPR  --  CLASS 4 - - Medium Breeds - mature at 8-11 pounds

  (Example: New Zealand, Californian, Satin, Rex, Champagned’ Argent,  Crossbreds)

ZPR  --  CLASS 5 - - Small Breeds - mature at 2-7 pounds

 (Example: Dutch, MiniLop, Netherland Dwarf, Crossbreds)

A poultry member may sell up to three (3) individual meat birds of different species

(example: a chicken, goose and turkey) in the Valley County 4-H/FFA Livestock Sale provided the following Poultry Project Activities criteria is met:

  1. Members may submit only one entry per lot consisting of (6) six eggs of the same size, shape and color in cardboard egg cartons.
  2. Entries will be judged during the poultry show.
