Trail Mapping Project
Project abstract
This trail mapping project, started in 2016, is a collaboration between Montana State University, the Gallatin County GIS Department, and other interested agencies. Students help to update the Gallatin County trails database by recording trail centerlines, social trail offshoots, and features found along the trails such as benches, bridges, creek crossings, and signs. They also collect attribute data including trail surface and width. The data collection improves the accuracy of the existing trails database and can be used for management, planning, and search and rescue.
