Hepatitis B Immunization
Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV are the major blood-borne infectious diseases. There are no vaccines to prevent Hepatitis C and HIV. The only way to prevent Hepatitis C and HIV infection is to prevent exposure.
There is, however, an effective immunization to prevent Hepatitis B. Hepatitis B vaccine
is given by injection, is highly effective in preventing Hepatitis B infection, and
has very few side effects. It is available free of charge to all SHS employees and
is strongly recommended. If you have not had the three-shot series previously, see
the Employee Immunization Coordinator in Acute Care to arrange for these immunizations.
