Universal Precautions
Since patients with a BBP infection may not appear ill, it may not be possible to
know which patients harbor a serious infectious disease. Therefore, all human blood
and OPIM are treated as if they are infectious for HIV, hepatitis B and C viruses
and other BBPs. This approach is called Universal Precautions.
