The Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (FTEA) is funded by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State and is implemented by International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX). The program brings outstanding secondary teachers from all over the world to experience secondary education in the United States. FTEA participants encounter opportunities to develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills, and increase their knowledge about the United States. FTEA teachers travel to the United States to participate in a 6-week professional development program at one of 5-6 American universities selected to host the program. Montana State has hosted the program almost every year since 2010 (excluding 2020).

The key program objectives include: 1) Build lasting relationships that promote mutual understanding and collaboration between the United States and international teachers and students through educational and cultural exchanges, 2) provide professional development to enhance teachers’ expertise in their teaching disciplines, and equip them with new and best practices in teaching methodology, curriculum development, and instructional technology and 3) contribute to improving secondary education in participating countries by preparing program participants to serve as teacher leaders, equipped to apply and share experience and skills with their colleagues and students upon returning home.

In the Fall of 2024, Montana State University’s Office of International Programs partnered with the Bozeman Public Schools to welcome 23 teachers from 20 different countries. They were paired with Bozeman Public School teachers (Bozeman High School, Gallatin High School) for a 40-hour field experience in the schools.

More information on the FTEA program can be found on the IREX website.
