Prospective Scholars

Eligibility

The McNair Scholars Program supports students who have not traditionally participated in higher education:

• Low income (<150% of federal poverty level; Federal TRIO Programs Current-Year Low-Income Levels)
• First-generation college student (neither parent nor primary caregiver(s) earned a 4-year college degree before the prospective scholar turned 18-years old)

Additional eligibility requirements:

• Full-time undergraduate student

• Will have completed 60 credits before beginning the summer research/project

• 2.75 GPA (preferably 3.0 GPA)

• A citizen or permanent resident of the USA

All majors are encouraged to apply

Benefits

• 3-credit summer tuition waiver
• Undergraduate research experience
• $2,400 research stipend each summer for conducting research plus an additional $400 earned allowance if in good and active standing
• Faculty mentorship in your academic and/or research field
• Paid travel to present your research at conference proceedings 
• Paid travel to visit graduate schools
• Assistance with applying to graduate school
• Graduate school application fee waivers (at participating institutions)
