Welcome to the School of Music at Montana State University! Our students are performers, composers, educators, conductors, technologists, and scholars who regularly present their creative and scholarly work at regional, national, and international venues. Our award-winning faculty are dedicated educators who are committed to an undergraduate education that empowers students to explore diverse ideas and musical practices.

Jason Bolte, School of Music Interim Director

For students wishing to major or minor in music, we offer the Bachelor of Arts in Music, the Bachelor of Music Education, the Bachelor of Arts in Music Technology, and the Minor in Music. Our B.A. degrees allow music majors flexibility to pursue interests in additional areas of study, possibly leading to combining music with a double major or minor.\

For graduate students, we offer a Master of Music in Music Education, designed for currently licensed, practicing music teachers. This degree program can be completed 100% online, allowing you to earn an advanced music degree on your own time, while continuing your teaching career. The MMME curriculum emphasizes practical applications of music and music education content in K-12 music classrooms. Through the MMME, you will enhance your skills, improve your students' achievement and increase your earning potential.

The School of Music also offers a musical home to all MSU students that wish to take part in music, including participation in one of our 18 ensembles. Students performing in the Spirit of the West Marching Band can earn partial tuition waivers for up to four years.

Join us as our students and faculty shape music performance, technology, education, composition, and scholarship for today and tomorrow. Plan a visit to MSU and the School of Music to see all we have to offer. If you have any questions about our degrees or courses, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to you joining us in Bozeman!
