Eligibility

Montana pre- or in-service elementary teachers (USA Citizens Only).

Stipend and Expenses

Each participating teacher receives a $6,000 stipend.

In addition, housing and meals are provided, and teachers will also receive support for travel. Research and other program expenses are covered.

Housing and meals are available on campus; otherwise, a modest housing/meal allowance will be provided.

Schedule and format

This is a six-week, in-person program that takes place in Bozeman, Montana.

The 2024 program begins Monday, July 1 through Friday, Aug. 8 (weekdays only).

This is essentially a full-time research commitment for six weeks (program calendar below), though schedule exceptions may be possible in consultation with the research mentor and RET Program leadership.

In addition to research, participants will engage in weekly curriculum development workshops and interactive off-campus tours of industrial and cultural sites.

 

Weekly Schedule 2024 (example - exact activities may vary)

Week 1: July 1 - 5 - Virtual due to Fourth of July Holiday. Orientation, meet the research mentors, etc. Plan to be online all day from July 1 through 3.

Week 2: July 8 - 12. ON CAMPUS. Begin research. Out-of-town participants should plan to check into campus housing on Sunday, July 7. 

Weeks 3-5: Research, workshops and tours

Week 6: Aug. 5-9. STEM Summer Institute educator conference (SSI) at MSU; finalize and present research/curricula
