Water Resources Minor
Water unites us. From agriculture to municipalities to ecosystem health, water is an ever-present component of our lives. Currently, the ways in which regions interact with water resources is changing. Population growth, global climate shifts, new technologies, and more are forces making water an increasingly precious resource. The Montana State University Water Resources Minor is designed to encourage students from any discipline to explore water resources beyond course work in their major. As a result, the minor includes courses from the Colleges of Agriculture, Engineering, and Letters and Science.
With a minor in Water Resources, students can enter the workforce with a broad knowledge of water issues and with experience in the field. This minor has an optional internship that will provide students with hands-on experience with researchers, water groups, or other focus areas that suit the student's interests. The interdisciplinary nature of the minor guarantees that students learn to view water with critical thinking skills, strengthening their degrees by adding dimension to the student's knowledge base.
This interdisciplinary minor is administered by the Water Resources Committee (WRM). Any committee member may serve as an advisor for the minor (see list of Faculty Advisors below). The chair of the committee (Rob Payn) serves as the curriculum review officer and signs the application for a Non-Teaching Minor after being approved and forwarded on by departmental advisors.
Additional resources including the Minor Application form and Course and Curriculum Changes form can be found on the MSU Office of the Registrar's website. PLEASE NOTE that this minor has an overlap policy that requires nine credits that are unique to the minor (i.e., classes that do not satisfy curricula of the student's major(s) or other minor(s)). Please navigate to the minor requirements in the catalog for more detail.
