Special Housing and Dietary Requests
Special Housing Requests
Some requests for special housing considerations can be recommended for approval by the Office of Disability Services after verification of medical or disability-related need.
Common Special Housing and Dietary Accommodations
Disability services provides housing and dietary accommodations such as:
- Single room
- On-campus housing exemptions
- Meal plan exemptions
- ADA accessible floors
As well as other personalized accommodations.
Step 1: Begin the special housing requests process with the University Student Housing application
Apply for University Student Housing, and indicate need or requested accommodations on the student's Housing Application.
University Student Housing makes a final decision based on Disability Services' recommendation, room availability, and the student's application date. Some decisions may also be subject to committee review.
Step 2: Submit the request form in Accommodate with documentation.
- Log into Accommodate - you will need your NetID and password.
- Complete the Student Intake by clicking Accommodation & Information Requests.
- Then, click Accommodation Requests and proceed to the Accommodate portal with documentation.
This will need to be complete well before the March 1st priority deadline. We will still accept requests after March 1st, however availability for single rooms may not be guaranteed due to the limited amount of rooms on campus.
For documentation, we are mainly looking for an impact of diagnosis statement with a recommendation for a special housing request from a licensed provider. More information on documentation can be found here: Documentation Guidelines.
Single Room Requests
University Student Housing has a limited number of single occupancy rooms for which students with qualifying disability limitations may be given priority placement.
Note on single room accommodations: A single room cannot guarantee a quiet environment.
Students who need to study in a quiet environment can have their study needs met in areas such as the library or other designated quiet student areas on campus or in the Residence Halls. We will evaluate each request on a case-by-case basis.
Special Dietary Requests
- Log into Accommodate - you will need your NetID and password.
- Complete the Student Intake by clicking Accommodation & Information Requests.
- Click Accommodations Requests.
- Upload your documentation (Here is a link to our Documentation Guidelines).
Some requests for special dietary considerations, which meet the definition of an ADA-qualifying disability, can be recommended for approval by the Office of Disability Services after verification of medical or disability-related need. The process should be started with Culinary Services by indicating needed or requested accommodations via the Register Dietitian Nutritionist.
While we understand students may have food preferences and intolerances, please be aware that these conditions within themselves do not qualify as disabilities under the ADA and will not result in being removed from the meal plan as an ADA accommodation. Culinary Services makes a final decision based on Disability Services' recommendation.
If you are having any accessibility issues with the request form, need help filling it out or if you would prefer a paper copy please contact the Office of Disability Services for assistance. 406-994-2824
