Congratulations Dr. Shihua Brazill!We hope you will join us in congratulating Dr. Shihua Brazill for the successful defense of her three-article PhD dissertation, “Re-Conceptualizing Graduate Student Cross-Cultural Socialization: A Novel Strength-Based Perspective.” Her defense was well attended and included a global audience via Zoom, a testament to both the importance of her scholarship and the strength of her professional network. We are grateful to have her as part of the CFE Team. Congratulations, Shihua!

In this workshop, you will learn how to design inclusive courses and implement UDL principles. Learn more about this inclusive course design session Teaching Online Program (TOP) Advance CourseIf you are interested in enhancing your online courses, please consider enrolling in the Teaching Online Program (TOP) Advanced course. This training opportunity focuses on creating engaging online learning experiences and takes place over 5 weeks from February 2nd to March 13th. Each week takes about 4-7 hours per week to watch short videos, read short articles, participate in online discussion forums, create an instructional plan for engaging online learning experiences, peer review each other’s plans, and complete a group activity. One of the goals of this course is to experience what it is like to be an online student and to learn from and share ideas with other online instructors. This course is designed for those who have completed the Teaching Online Program Basic-Level course or has some basic experience with teaching online. Join the MSU Teaching Scholars Contemplative Pedagogy Faculty Learning CommunityThe theme of this community of practice is integration of contemplative practices into higher education learning environments. As faculty in higher education, we have the opportunity to go beyond transmission of information and help students develop holistically into compassionate and self-aware people with the skills needed to navigate and solve complicated modern challenges. Contemplative pedagogy is an innovative pedagogical strategy addressing the need for this holistic student development. Don't Cancel that Class is a program run by the VOICE Center, the advocacy center for survivors of interpersonal violence. The program allows professors to schedule a VOICE Center presentation for their classes. The program is perfect for professors who will be absent as they attend conferences and want their classes to meet during their absence. The VOICE Center can tailor the presentation to topics specific to each class such as climate change and interpersonal violence, trauma-informed care for medical professionals, or the presentation can focus on consent, bystander intervention, etc.

Lunar New Year Celebrations!February 1st, 4:30-6:30 in Inspiration Hall 2022 is the year of the tiger! To celebrate, Asian Student Interracial Association (A.S.I.A.) is planning a week-long celebration for Lunar New Year the week of January 31st. One of our events is the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Research and Creativity Celebration, an evening where AAPI creators and researchers can share their work to the MSU community. A networking event for attendees will follow the speaker session. Our goal for this event is to celebrate, elevate, and connect AAPI voices in creative and research fields at MSU. This event is co-sponsored by the Graduate School, the College of Engineering, and the College of Education, Health and Human Development. More information on our Lunar New Year Event Series
