Dear Colleagues, We hope that you had a good holiday break! We wanted to remind you about the syllabus resources below and share with you the exciting news that our new Instructional Designer, Nina Schweppe, has joined the team. Nina Mondré Schweppe joins the CFE as an Instructional Designer with a focus on Universal Design for Learning. You may remember Nina from her time at the CFE during the pandemic or know her from her work with Liberal Studies and the Honors College at MSU. As the CFE's newest Instructional Designer, she is excited to contribute herinternational knowledge,experience and skills inteaching, learning and higher education pedagogy to the CFE. Welcome, Nina! The CFE Team Syllabus Resources for spring semester including AI in the classroomIn partnership with numerous groups on campus, the CFE developed guidance around using AI in the classroom and assignments. We also have many resources for creating your syllabus in general and will be once again offering the Generative AI: Minimizing Risks for Student Use workshop on January 17, 2024. MSU Library Open House 2024Tuesday, January 16, 2024|| 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM|| MSU Library, Second and Third Floor If you haven’t visited the new space for the CFE and the Research Alliance, come check us out at the Library Open House! There are many curiosities on the MSU campus, and MSU Library wants to be sure you have the tools to unearth these mysteries. Faculty, staff, graduate students, and community members are invited to the library’s annual Open House. Generative AI: Minimizing Risks for Student UseWednesday, January 17|| 12:00pm (noon) to 1:00 pm || MSU Library 324 Teaching Space || Register Lunch will be provided. Facilitated by Ken Silvestri, CFE Instructional Designer. ***Note that this session was offered in Fall 2023 with minor additions*** Advancements in technology have changed the way people teach and learn throughout history. Generative AI represents one of those moments that is changing the way people teach and learn, which in turn, poses both risks and opportunities to these processes. In this workshop, we will explore strategies for minimizing the risks associated with students using Generative AI. Active Learning Basics: Rethink Your Teaching to Promote Deeper LearningTuesday, January 23 || 12:00pm (noon) to 1:00 pm || MSU Library 324 Teaching Space || Register Lunch will be provided. Successfully Cultivating your Network of Mentors, Sponsors, and Collaborators Thursday, January 25 ||12:00 PM- 1:30 PM || MSU Library 324 Teaching Space||Register Lunch will be provided In this session of the Early Career Faculty Success Learning Community, we will explore connecting with communities in Montana, learn about Goal 3.1: Increase mutually beneficial collaborations with Tribal nations and partners, and discuss ways to cultivate your network. Join the Teaching Sustainability Faculty Learning CommunityThe goal of the Teaching Sustainability Faculty Learning Community is to create an informal gathering of faculty who can learn from campus leaders and each other throughout the spring semester. We will have regular meetings with different topics of interest, targeted outcomes, and guest speakers. In order to build faculty community around teaching sustainability, each session will build on the previous so we ask that if you sign up, you are committing to all the modules. There will be a total of four sessions. Please follow the links below to learn more and register for each session. You can also register for them all here.
