  • Define "why" (why are we doing this) before "what" (what are we
    doing)

Structure/Formatting the statement

SWiBAT Format:

  • "Student(s) will be able to... "

  • Students will be able to do  ___________ (verb), ___________(demonstrated learning) (criterion), as a result of ___________ (program/service).

ABCD Format:

  • A – audience, B – behavior, C – condition, D - degree
  • Audience – usually students or a group of students. Be as specific as possible. (i.e. pell eligible, first generation, freshman)
  • Behavior – what is the audience expected to do as a result of the intervention.
  • Condition – the program or intervention that foster’s the behavior.
  • Behavior – provides the threshold to determine if the outcome is achieved.
  • Formula: Condition, Audience, Behavior, Degree
