Greetings,

My name is Lexi Smith, the new Forest Stewardship Coordinator for Montana State University Extension Forestry. I am currently working with Cindy Peterson, who has been the coordinator for the past 19 years. I am a University of Montana graduate with a B.S. in Forest Management and a minor in Ecological Restoration. I was born and raised in Kealakekua, on the Big Island of Hawai’i, and come from a family of cattle ranchers and coffee farmers. I traveled across the Pacific Ocean to the Rocky Mountains to study forestry and experience an environment that has actual seasonal changes. I love Montana! I enjoy hiking, hunting, and making rope horse tack in my spare time.

My work experience with the U.S. Forest Service and the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation has been focused on natural resource management, specifically in silvicultural prescriptions and timber sales. With my background, I feel I can relate to landowners who have the desire to create a conservation plan for their property and learn about all the nuances of forest ecology, wildlife, and forest management across our state.

I am eager to contribute to the success of the Forest Stewardship Program and look forward to working with landowners and their forests across Montana. Please contact me with any questions or comments about the program.
